Graven Hill.

The Right to Build Task Force is offering the only non-consumer tours of the Graven Hill site, sharing learnings and best practice with sector professionals.

The UK’s largest Self and Custom Build site, Graven Hill in Bicester has become the UK’s prime example of the sector in action, and as such is an essential visit for anyone looking to develop opportunities to support people to build an owner-commissioned or customised home.

With a range of home options on offer  the project has become a test-bed for innovation. Products available include more compact homes, Golden Brick and terraced housing, such as the customisable Tailored Homes, pictured.

The site, on former Ministry of Defence land, used a Local Development Order to simplify the planning process, with Plot Passports setting out the parameters of what can be built on a home-by-home basis. Cherwell District Council bought the site, before transferring it to the management of the Graven Hill Village Development Company, offering an example of a route to market for other councils.

There are still a few places available on next week’s visit on Wed 3 October, which costs £91.33 incl. VAT and includes:

  • Introduction to the Graven Hill project
  • Visit to the Plot Shop, the town centre marketing suite for selling plots and customisable properties
  • Guided minibus tour around the site, including Phase 1, Golden Brick plots, Custom Build Homes (detached and terraces), the ‘Flying Factory’, Affordable housing, Hillside Plots, The Crescent, landscaping/features and Phase 0.

The site visit takes roughly an hour.

The tour will help professionals answer the following questions:

  • What does the future of housing development look like?
How can pioneering local authorities add value to existing assets or land on their brownfields register?
How can the opportunity to customise or design a home lead to happier, healthier, more settled communities?
How can Affordable housing be delivered this way?
What does the largest Custom and Self Build housing development in Europe look like?

Date: Wed 3 October 2018

Time: 13:15 – 14:15 BST

Cost: £91.33

The last few tickets are available from Eventbrite.
