Beattie Passive has launched a volumetric modular flying factory, complementing its work in delivering a range of Passivhaus homes at Graven Hill, Bicester.

Launched by Right to Build Task Force Ambassador and MP Richard Bacon at Scottow Enterprise Park, Norfolk, the new factory has been developed to deliver high quality Passivhaus homes across the UK. Beattie Passive has also launched its new Pop-up Relocatable Homes, designed to meet the need for affordable, high-quality housing for the growing homelessness crisis.

The new Flying Factories are a cost effective volumetric approach that will enable housing associations and developers to deliver their own Passivhaus standard housing with off-site manufacture and rapid on-site assembly.

Beattie Passive is able to support stakeholders to set up and run the Flying Factory for onsite volumetric delivery, providing the ability to manufacture Passivhaus on a large scale using local labour, with the ability to control costs.

The company maintains that this approach represents a gamechanger to the market due to the flexibility of the model.

One advantage of Flying Factories for the sector is the fact that having the source of manufacturing on site-means that customisable homes are easy to cater for, as individual components can be constructed as needed.

The two elements of Custom Build and volumetric supply could offer a route to the future for affordable Custom Build, giving housing providers the opportunity to offer more choice to residents on new developments, while managing costs effectively.

Benefits of the system
• Passivhaus Standard: High levels of technical performance with low running costs and the healthy, comfortable living environment of Passivhaus;
• Flexible delivery solutions: onsite or offsite delivery of Passivhaus, with the ability for Housing Associations and Local Authorities to set up their own Flying Factories to deliver Passivhaus housing with local labour and local supply chains;
• Pop-up Relocatable Homes is an adaptable approach that meets temporary needs whilst also being suitable for long-term permanent housing. Houses can be installed in weeks and then relocated and altered as need and location changes
• Comes with LABC and Premier 10-year Warranty

Beattie Passive is a preferred supplier to deliver Tailored Finish properties at Graven Hill, the 1,900 plots site in Bicester. It’s timber frame build system is being used to create some of the two and three-bedroom terrace products on the site, as well as the compact coach houses and Golden Brick Self-build properties.

You can book to see the Volumetric Flying Factory in Norfolk in action, and find out how you could set up your own Passivhaus Flying Factory.
